Ask an Audiologist – Speech Pathologist Recommends Hearing Test

When is it necessary to get a hearing test. After a visit with a speech pathologist, one parent asks our CASLPO (College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists) registered Audiology Manager, Tracy Saunders, for a second opinion.

Ask an Audiologist…

This test was conducted on my seven year-old son, who saw a speech pathologist at school. The board recommended a hearing test. He only has difficulty with saying the ‘k’ sound. Is a hearing test necessary?

Thank you!

Audiologist Response…

Hi,

Thanks for submitting your question via the Hearing Solutions website.

While there is a good chance that your son’s hearing is normal, I would agree with the recommendation to have a hearing test.

A hearing test is often the first step in treating any speech related issue.

I hope you find this information useful.

Best regards,

Tracy Saunders, M.Cl.Sc., Reg. CASLPO
