Audéo™ Life – The World’s First Waterproof* Rechargeable Hearing Aid | Hearing Solutions
Hearing aids offer many benefits if you suffer from moderate to severe hearing loss. However, you might find you aren’t able to wear your hearing aid in situations where it might get wet. Whether it is torrential downpours we see so often in the summer months, sweating during exercise or soaking in the hot tub, having to take your hearing aid out when water threatens damage can be very inconvenient.
Luckily, you now have the option to choose a waterproof hearing aid. Hearing Solutions now carries Audéo™ Life, the first waterproof rechargeable hearing aid in the world. It offers an exciting option if you lead a very active lifestyle where the risk of your hearing aid getting wet is high. Here’s everything you need to know about waterproof hearing aids.
What is Phonak Audéo Life?
Phonak Audéo Life is a hearing device designed to keep up with your active lifestyle. You can literally risk getting caught in the rain because the hearing aid is completely waterproof.
Whether it is an unexpected downpour, a tour on the Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls, sitting in a hot tub with friends, or sweating at the gym you can feel confident you can keep up with the conversation without damaging your hearing device. Phonak Audéo Life hearing aids stood up to the wettest conditions including fresh, salty, and even soapy water. As a result, you can wear the hearing aid wet or dry worry-free.

What is an IP Rating?
IP ratings appear on electronic devices. You can check the packaging where it indicates “IP” and two numbers rated by the International Electrotechnical Commission. The first number is the IP rating for dust resistance which will range between 1 and 7. It tells you how well your hearing aid protects against debris getting into your hearing device and gumming up the works. The IP moisture rating is the second number telling you how resistant the electrical device is to moisture.
How water-resistant are basic hearing aids?
When shopping for hearing aids, if you are concerned about moisture, look at the second digit on the IP rating. A number lower than 7 means your hearing aid cannot be immersed in water. Instead, it is water-resistant, which is very different.
Water-resistance means it can withstand exposure to water such as some sweat or rain, while waterproof means the hearing aid can be completely immersed in water. The Phonak Audéo Life has been extensively tested beyond the normal IP68 rating so it can be completely submerged in fresh, salt and pool water in depths up to 50 cm or 1.64 feet.
How to Make the Most of Waterproof Hearing Aids
Waterproof hearing aids still require care to keep them dry following contact with water and sweat. This ensures they work more efficiently. The key is to wipe them down thoroughly with a dry, clean cloth so they are completely dry before placing them in their docking system.
The Best of Both Worlds
You can also get the best of both worlds if you love your current hearing device. The Phonak Charger Case Go allows you to carry your Phonak Audéo Life with you when you plan to participate in activities that increase the risk of submersion or extensive exposure to water. The case is an inductive charger featuring an internal battery, so it doesn’t have to be plugged in to charge your hearing aid. The Phonak Life Charger™ has no internal battery and will quickly charge Audéo Life in 3 hours.
