Lenire® Tinnitus Treatment
Now available at Hearing Solutions - one of the first clinics in Canada to
offer Lenire®, a clinically supported tinnitus treatment
Lenire® is a take-home medical device that combines calming sounds with gentle tongue stimulation to help reduce the impact of tinnitus on your daily life. The treatment is delivered in clinic and at home over a 12 week program.
Tinnitus is the the perception of sound with no external source like ringing, buzzing, or hissing, affects millions of Canadians, and for some it interferes with sleep, focus, and quality of life.
What is Lenire®?
Lenire® is a take-home tinnitus treatment device made by Neuromod Devices. It’s authorized for use by Health Canada, the US FDA, and in Europe, and has been studied in over 800 patients across multiple large clinical trials.
Lenire® works by giving your brain two gentle signals at the same time:
- Calming sounds through wireless headphones
- A light tingling on your tongue, from a Tonguetip®
When your brain receives these two signals together, day after day, it gradually learns to pay less attention to the tinnitus. The treatment runs over 12 weeks. In clinical trials, this approach has been shown to outperform sound-only therapy for people with moderate or worse tinnitus.
You use Lenire® at home, twice a day for 30 minutes a session. Each session is calibrated to your specific hearing and tinnitus profile by your clinician at the fitting appointment.
Who is the Lenire® Tinnitus Treatment For?
Lenire® is likely a good fit for you if:
- You are an adult experiencing chronic, subjective tinnitus (the kind you can only hear)
- Your tinnitus is affecting your daily life, like your sleep, focus, mood, or relationships
- You’re looking for a clinically supported, drug-free option
- You’re medically cleared for treatment (we confirm this at your assessment)
Some patients are better served by hearing aids, counselling-based approaches, or a combination of therapies. Lenire® isn’t right for everyone, and we’ll tell you honestly if it isn’t the right fit.
What's Included with Lenire®
Your Lenire system has three parts. Your clinician sets all of them up for you at your fitting appointment.
Lenire Tonguetip®
A small, lightweight piece that rests on your tongue with your mouth closed. It delivers the gentle tingling signal during each session.
Lenire Controller
A small handheld unit you use to start your session and adjust the volume and tongue strength to a comfortable level.
Wireless Headphones
Comfortable wireless headphones that play the calming sounds in time with the tongue signal. They work together as one treatment.
What to Expect From Lenire® Tinnitus Treatment
1. Tinnitus Assessment (75 Minutes)
Your first step is a tinnitus assessment with one of our trained clinicians. This isn’t a standard hearing test, it’s focused entirely on your tinnitus and how it’s affecting you, and you’ll leave with a clear understanding of your tinnitus and a personalized recommendation. During the appointment we’ll:
- Walk through your tinnitus history and the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) — a short questionnaire we send you in advance
- Test your hearing and measure the pitch and loudness of your tinnitus
- Check whether Lenire is a good fit for you, including a quick look at your tongue
- Talk through how tinnitus works and your treatment options
2. Lenire® Fitting Appointment (60 Minutes)
If Lenire® is recommended and you choose to proceed, you return for a fitting appointment. We configure and calibrate your device, set up the headphones and Tonguetip, teach you how to use the system at home, establish your treatment goals, and complete a supervised in-clinic trial session.
3. Daily Home Treatment
For the next 12 weeks, you use Lenire® at home on a structured daily schedule: two 30-minute sessions per day. Most patients sit somewhere quiet (reading, watching TV, or just relaxing) while the device does its work. Treatment goals and adherence are reviewed throughout the program.
4. Check-Ins Along the Way
You stay in close touch with us throughout your 12-week treatment course. Your plan includes structured check-ins at every milestone, plus flexible support whenever you need it.
Scheduled Check-Ins
| 48 HRS | After Fitting Check-In Call A quick call to confirm everything is set up correctly at home and address any early questions or concerns. |
| WEEK 2 | In-Clinic Recheck (30 min) Focused on your daily routine and device comfort, how the system feels, whether you’re settling into a rhythm, and coaching on consistency. |
| WEEK 6 | Mid-Treatment Check (30 min) A mid-treatment review of how things are going overall — changes in your tinnitus, your sleep, your mood, your day-to-day life, and any side effects. |
| WEEK 12 | Outcome Recheck (30 min) The wrap-up of your treatment course. This includes a full progress review, review of your treatment data logged on the device, a THI reassessment to measure outcome, and a discussion of next steps. |
| X2 | Tele-Audiology Check-In Calls Additional virtual touchpoints built into your plan for extra support, troubleshooting, or just to stay connected throughout the 12 weeks. |
Flexible Support
X2 – As Needed Appointments – Bonus in-clinic appointments included in your treatment plan, available anytime during your 12 weeks for questions, concerns, or fine-tuning.
Every check-in is included in your treatment cost. There are no additional fees for follow-up care.
4. Long-Term Care
Once your 12-week course is complete, you transition into our annual review cadence so we can continue to monitor your hearing and tinnitus over time. If your needs change down the road, your existing relationship with us means a faster path back into care.

How is the Impact of Tinnitus Measured?
The clinical standard for measuring tinnitus is the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) – a 25 question questionnaire that captures how much tinnitus is affecting your daily life. Your answers produce a score from 0 to 100. Higher scores means tinnitus has a bigger impact on you.
We use the THI in three ways:
- Before Your Assessment – You complete the THI at home so we can review it together at your appointment.
- At Your 12-Week Recheck – You complete it again so we can measure how things have changed over treatment.
- As an Ongoing Benchmark – Your scores stay on file to track your tinnitus over time, even after treatment ends.
The THI is the most widely used and clinically validated measure of tinnitus impact. It’s how we’ll measure whether your treatment is working for you.
Lenire’s effect on THI scores has been documented across multiple large clinical trials. To see how the device works at the brain level and to view the published research behind it, visit their science page

FAQ's
Tinnitus is the perception of sound with no external source, commonly described as ringing, buzzing, hissing, or roaring. It is a symptom – not a disease, and is most often associated with hearing loss, noise exposure, ear injury, or circulatory factors.
No. There is no cure for tinnitus in most cases. Lenire® is designed to reduce the impact of tinnitus so it becomes less bothersome or unnoticeable in daily life.
Candidacy is confirmed at your Tinnitus Assessment. Your clinician will review your tinnitus history, hearing, overall health, and complete a brief tongue assessment to determine whether Lenire® is the most appropriate option for you. If it is not, we will recommend an alternative pathway such as hearing aids or counselling-based therapy.
Lenire® is a 12-week treatment course with structured follow-up appointments throughout. Patients use the device at home for two 30-minute sessions per day.
The Tinnitus Assessment is $145. If you proceed with a Lenire® or hearing aid treatment plan, this fee is credited toward the cost of treatment.
Tinnitus Handicap Inventory is a clinical standard for measuring tinnitus. Measured on a scale of 1 – 100, higher scores means worse tinnitus. Decreasing THI leads to an improved quality of life for tinnitus patients.
