Whoopi Goldberg – A Famous Hearing Aid Wearer

She’s an award-winning Actress, Comedian, is one of the co-hosts of ABC’s The View, and… a hearing aid wearer. Whoopi Goldberg is known to many as a very funny, talented lady that has graced the big screen in blockbusters like The Colour Purple, Ghost, Sister Act I and II, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and more. However, even a big superstar isn’t immune to hearing loss.

As joked about in a guest appearance on the TV Series 30 Rock, Goldberg has even achieved a feat that only a select number of entertainers have been able to reach, she “EGOTed.” To EGOT is to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. The list of awards goes on and are too many to mention here, but sufficed to say hearing loss is one thing Goldberg received that she probably wishes she could return.

In July 2011, while attending the Starkey Hearing Foundation’s So the World May Hear Awards Gala, Goldberg said “I attribute my own hearing loss – which, by the way, is suffered by thousands of people in varying degrees – to years and years of listening to music so loudly and so close to the delicate ear drum.”

As a hearing aid wearer, Goldberg became an advocate for the Starkey Hearing Foundation with a message for young people. She has urged young people to avoid her fate by lowering the volume coming through their speakers and headphones.

Hearing Solutions echoes that.
